Lowering the Spread of Illness with Cat and Dog Vaccinations in Hancock County
To minimize your pet’s risk of illness as much as possible, vaccines should be a fixture in their routine health care. Vaccines give our beloved dogs and cats the protection they need to avoid infection altogether, or experience only minor symptoms from which they can quickly recover. Here in Hancock County, our mobile veterinary practice can come to you to provide your four-legged family member with the vaccines they need for their health and lifestyle. Our cat and dog vaccinations are safe and effective, and can give you peace of mind about their well-being (and the rest of your family’s, too). We follow recommendations set by AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association) and AAFP (American Association of Feline Practitioners).

Can My Pet have an Allergic Reaction to Their Vaccines?
Allergic reactions to vaccines are very rare, but nonetheless, we take precautions to prevent them whenever possible. The most common types of reactions are more minor, and usually involve slight discomfort at the injection site and temporary drowsiness. Often, pets that react to their vaccinations do so because they have received too many vaccines at once. At Flag City Mobile Vet, we make sure that our cat and dog patients only get the vaccines they need, and we spread them out to further reduce risks for a reaction.
The Importance of Core Vaccines for Dogs and Cats
Core cat and dog vaccinations are considered essential for pets, because they offer protection against some of the most dangerous viruses, which include:
- Distemper
- Parvo
- Rabies
- Feline viral rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, and panleukopenia
These diseases are life-threatening and, in the case of rabies, can be passed on to humans as well. Vaccinating your pet protects their health, first and foremost, but it also protects the health of the humans in your family and community.
Lifestyle-based Cat and Dog Vaccines
Dr. Frederick and her mobile veterinary team can provide your pet with certain lifestyle-based vaccines if they are more at risk for illnesses such as kennel cough, leptospirosis, or feline leukemia. If your dog is the type to travel or stay at a boarding kennel, then they’ll probably need the kennel cough/Bordetella vaccine and influenza vaccine.
